…by Poetic Tee “Here, take a sip”
Whatever happened to life
When children would call each other to play
Only for grown ups to take it over with a fight?
Now, nobody meets on the playground, but do virtually
Yet the fight has remained.
Whatever happened to love
That someone would kill himself for
And another would follow suit to confirm its true existence?
Now, nobody cares about the heart or what it holds sacred
Rather, it is vain vanity and deception that reigns supreme.
Whatever happened to friendship
When good would fall from the sky
And friends would harvest not just for self, but for others too?
Now, tidings are hidden from the e-ones
That live every moment tagging along each log on made.
Whatever happened to family
When a brother to a father whose mother is a sister
To an uncle of a cousin's niece would visit his sick grandma?
Now, status updates on social media of a relation's death
In company of their images is used to collect reactions and emojis.
Whatever happened to trust
When treasures would find home with the poor and destitute
Only to be met intact or improved notwithstanding ages?
Now, riches, wealth, bitcoins stored in bytes are pursued
Their vaults and owners hacked, from shadows of invisibility.
Whatever happened to peace, security
When a neighbor would leave his house unlocked
Travel the world, return to meet even dust not encroaching his privacy?
Now, the eye penetrates the innermost of sacred intimacies
Using all means violationable and making you pay for it.
Whatever happened to foods and drinks
When crops, so natural would be sown
Bumper reaps result, sustaining till another?
Now GMO is forced, bees are killed, gardens destroyed and DNA tampered with.
All for what? Progression to retrogression?
Whatever happened to cultures
When traditional values would be passed on with pride
Guiding societal principles, progeny for generations?
Now, it's all on a search engine machine app
Accessed by all, read for marks by a few, at the click of a mouse.
Whatever happened to good handmade music
When a song would be sang, enjoyed for ages
And danced in dances in celebrations of living?
Now, only bad sounds reverberate ànd echo
To distort minds of the young and hurt ears of the sane.
Whatever happened to our belief
When we would be selfless, expecting nothing today
Hoping tomorrow would be better, then blessed?
Now, we are told "Tomorrow never comes"
So are encouraged to self worship, for The One exists not.
Have we lost it all, lost ourselves to civilization forever?
What would it cost man to returns to our striped virtues?
Can’t life be lived beautifully by just establishing justice, fairness?
How can we be so lost using not just a compass, but the digital GPS?
Are we such a runaway, rushing downhill to a waiting cliff edge, set to fly?
