POETIC TEE WINS AGAIN ON ENJAMBMENT & END-STOP

What is Enjambment and End-Stop in poetry? That was the question that led to this challenge:

Today's poetry quiz will be based on our last lecture on 'ENJAMBMENT'

1. Briefly explain the concept of ENJAMBMENT in your own words.
2. What is an END-STOPPED verse?
3. Write a 6-line poem of any style with ENJAMBMENT and END STOP.
4. Identify the ENJAMBED lines.
5. Show at least 2 literary devices you used.

To which I made the following submission against many others:

HELP ME HELP HIM

She comes piercing through a thick, dark night
clutching a valued burden in her bosomic embrace.
Sensing curiosity, she unveils a watermelon atop a body
of a child, whose mother had abandoned for his disease.
"Help me help him." Her sad eyes full of despair, now hope
for a miracle from one, only another can assist. And yes, he did.

(c) 2014 Tijjani M. M.

1. Enjambment is a line in a poem that is read along with the next line following it, to make its full meaning complete or more so. If read on its own, the message the line is meant to communicate might seem incomplete or even not make sense at all.

2. End-stopped verse is a poetic line with the terminal period i.e. full stop at the end of it, impressing upon the fact that the verse has been completed.

3. Line 3 and Line 5 are each enjambed

4. Literary devices used are:

a) Imagery: i) Watermelon - to impress upon the over-blown size of the child's head. ii) a thick, dark night iii) valued burden

b) Dialogue: "Help me help him" - an appeal from the woman who cares, not for herself, but for another incapable of saving himself.

After all said and done, the principal and judge of the poetry contest, submitted as follows:

After reading through, I conclude that Sir Tijjani Muhammad Musa and Samuel Enobakhare gave the most understandable rendition of their thoughts on this.Everyone else did a good job.

And thus, we are honored by Allaah SWT for the upteenth time... :)
